Chimborazo

History….

Chimborazo is located in the middle of the Andean Cordillera, right on the avenue of the volcanoes. Named after the majestic Chimborazo volcano, it’s capital Riobamba has a population of about 150,000 persons as of the census of 2010 and its located at 210 Km to the south of Quito, a 3 - ½ hours scenic drive. There are a few things a visitor can enjoy while visiting the province of Chimborazo, one of the most memorable attractions, is without a doubt the visit to the Chimborazo National Park and Wildlife Reserve.

Chimborazo Volcano

Ecuador’s famous Avenue of the Volcanoes holds one of the more beautiful volcanoes in the world, although not the highest compared to Mount Everest, because of its location, if measured from the center of earth, it is higher than Everest. Chimborazo, an estratovolcano in the cordillera occidental on the Andes, last erupted around 550 AD. With an elevation of 20,549’, this ice-capped inactive volcano it’s a fascinating adventure for climbers around the world. Climbing this mountain is really one of the best experiences for seasoned and new adventures. There are plenty of companies that offer great packages for those who want to climb the Chimborazo, and for those who don’t there are hiking trails where you certainly have the best experience the park has to offer in this Province.

Riobamba

Riobamba is the capital of the Providence of Chimborazo, this city was founded on the 15 of August of 1534, siting at 2750 metros above sea level, its weather is cold and its average temperature is of 12°C. but it ranges from 0 to 25°C around the Province. The city Its located in the center of the country, surrounded by several volcanoes such as Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Altar and Carihuairazo. It is called "Cradle of the Ecuadorian Nationality", "Sultana of the Andes" and "City of First-Fruits". Because Riobamba was the first Spanish city founded in Ecuador, that’s why this city is full of history and holds some the first colonial architectures.

Devil’s Nose Train Trail

Built in one of the most inaccessible and dangerous part of the Andes, this trail was constructed in Zig-Zag to overcome an altitude of over 500 meters in the span of 12 Km, with extremely steep climbing and descending cliffs that really shows this hair raising trip experience see the magnificence of work and engineering. The trip down takes you through some of the most breathtaking scenery of Chimborazo, the Devil’s Nose train experience has always been one of the most popular rides in the country. Visitors to this Province will enjoy taking part of this experience, not only for the ride itself, but the food, its friendly people and the landscapes that surround the area.
